Host Site
VOLUNTEERS OF ALL FAITHS CHANGING LIVES
Family Promise of Greater Orlando’s shelter program is made possible through partnerships with interfaith congregations and volunteer groups, working together to support families experiencing homelessness.
Host sites provide lodging, meals, and hospitality, creating a safe and welcoming environment.
Each day begins with breakfast at a host site alongside volunteers, followed by transportation to our Resource Center, work, or childcare. In the evening, families return to the host site, where volunteers share a meal and offer time for connection and support.

Evenings allow for homework, relaxation, and family time, creating a sense of normalcy and comfort. Each day ends with families together, safely under one roof.

HOST CONGREGATIONS
Local houses of worship provide temporary overnight lodging in otherwise unused spaces in their buildings. A host congregation team of volunteers may be involved with the following:
-
Cooking and hosting dinner

-
Spending the evening with families, talking, tutoring kids or playing games

-
Sleeping overnight in the congregation

-
Coordinating children’s crafts & activities

-
Donating necessary supplies for the hosting week

-
Setting up and breaking down guest families’ rooms
MANAGEABLE COMMITMENT

-
Families stay overnight, not 24 hours a day

-
Each congregation hosts families for just one week, four times a year

-
Guests consist of approximately four families at a time (14 children & adults max)

-
Family Promise of Greater Orlando provides volunteer support and maintains a 24-hour emergency phone.

-
A Family Promise van driver transports the families to and from the host facility and carries their bedding and luggage to each new host location
